Overview

To enhance my wireframing and prototyping skills, I embarked on a short-term project to design a conceptual iOS feature for temporary picture storage. This feature allows users to save temporary photos without cluttering their photo library. Completed within 48 hours, the project resulted in a functional prototype aimed at addressing the need for managing short-term images efficiently.

Approach

Users frequently take photos for short-term purposes, such as remembering parking spots, capturing product labels, or saving event flyers. These images often clutter the photo library without long-term value. I identified this common issue and aimed to develop a solution that stores these images temporarily and deletes them automatically.

Problem & Process

I began by brainstorming common situations where temporary photos are taken. These images are often needed only for a short duration and can be deleted afterward.

Parking spots

Capturing product labels

Event flyers

Business cards

To make the process as quick and intuitive as possible, I created a rough wireframe based around taking photos and saving as reminders.

By following the conceptual model users have with taking pictures and creating reminders, the addition is seamless in the iOS reminder ecosystem. Additionally, I practiced building with the Apple design system components to create high-fidelity mockups.

Solution

By working within the existing iOS ecosystem, the final design empowers users to manage temporary photos efficiently through a process similar to the reminders app. Key functionalities include:

3D touch to ensure intentional reminders

Photos automatically deleted after a set period, helping to keep the photo library organized

Set fleeting reminders to appear when the user enters or leaves a location

Date-based deletion, ideal for short-term needs like re-ordering items

This solution ensures that transitory images serve their purpose without permanently taking up space in the user's photo library.

Prototype

After creating frames of user flow, I linked them together and created a Figma prototype.

Moving Forward

To further enhance this feature, the next steps would include conducting user testing to gather feedback on the prototype and identify any usability issues. Additionally, collaborating with developers would be crucial to ensure seamless integration with the existing iOS framework.

Conduct survey on desirability for a fleeting reminder feature

User testing to gather feedback on the prototype and identify usability issues

Collaborate with Swift and Objective-C developers to ensure seamless integration

Employ QA testers to identify and resolve bugs and usability issues
